The most credible story traces 4/20 to Marin County, Calif. In 1971, five students at San Rafael High School would meet at 4:20 p.m. by the campus’ statue of chemist Louis Pasteur to partake. They chose that specific time because extracurricular activities had usually ended by then. This group — Steve Capper, Dave Reddix, Jeffrey Noel, Larry Schwartz, and Mark Gravich — became known as the “Waldos” because they met at a wall. They would say “420” to each other as code for marijuana.

As Reddix told TIME in 2017, “We got tired of the Friday-night football scene with all of the jocks. We were the guys sitting under the stands smoking a doobie, wondering what we were doing there.”

The shenanigans continued long after 4:20 p.m., too. The group challenged each other to find ever-more-interesting things to do under the influence, calling their adventures “safaris.”

Later, Reddix’s brother helped him get work with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh as a roadie, so the band is said to have helped popularize the term “420.” On Dec. 28, 1990, a group of Deadheads in Oakland handed out flyers that invited people to smoke “420” on April 20 at 4:20 p.m. One ended up with Steve Bloom, a former reporter for High Times magazine, an authority on cannabis culture. The magazine printed the flyer in 1991 and continued to reference the number. Soon, it became known worldwide as code for marijuana. In 1998, the outlet acknowledged that the “Waldos” were the “inventors” of 420.

Bloom, now the publisher of Celebstoner.com, has credited the people who wrote the flyer for the date’s reputation as an annual gathering of pot smokers. “They wanted people all over the world to get together on one day each year and collectively smoke pot at the same time,” he wrote in 2015. “They birthed the idea of a stoner holiday, which April 20 has become.”

414 Day

It’s 414 Day, or Milwaukee Day! We celebrate Milwaukee on April 14 because the area code for the Milwaukee area is, you guessed it, 414! This year for 414 day we are celebrating a few of the spectacular movie palaces in Milwaukee that still act as theatres in some capacity today. 

First shown here is Downer Theatre, located at 2589 N. Downer Ave on Milwaukee’s East Side. The Downer Theatre is Milwaukee’s oldest operating movie theatre in Milwaukee. It opened in 1915 and has been a movie theatre ever since! It may have a tile front now and a different marquee, but at its heart it is still a fine old movie theatre. 

The second theatre shown here is the inside of Riverside Theater, located at 116 W Wisconsin Ave, opened in 1928 as a live performance center, and was a first-run movie theatre in the 1950s. Today, it is once again a live music and performance venue with a capacity of 2,450 people. 

The third theatre shown here is the crème de la crème: the Warner Grand Theatre, located at 212 W. Wisconsin Ave. This theatre was opened in 1931 in place of the opulent Butterfly Theatre that once stood in its location. The theatre cost $2.5 million to build and was considered the most beautiful in the city. It continued as a movie theatre until the mid-1990s when it closed. In 2017, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) purchased the theatre and renovated it back to its original glory. The theatre opened again in 2021 as the home of the MSO now called the Bradley Symphony Center, and it is gorgeous! 

There are other movie palaces still in use in Milwaukee, too, like the famous Oriental Theatre on the East Side, which underwent its own renovation in recent years, and the Avalon Theater in Bay View, which offers an “atmospheric” experience with a starry sky lit in the ceiling in the main theatre. 

All of the images in black and white are from Milwaukee Movie Palaces by Larry Widen and Judi Anderson, published in 1986 by Milwaukee County Historical Society. 

These theatres are part of Milwaukee’s history as well as a part of their present! I highly recommend visiting any one of them for a movie or performance soon.

hi marte, first of all i love your blog. i agree with most of your takes on larry situations and even their alleged break up rumours. i think they have been working on their career for quite some time and keeping the larry signalling lowkey. i know they are busy and stuff so i get it why the rumours are as such. honestly, i joined the fandom in 2021 and even since then I have seen much of their signalling as they used to do before that. i think I only ever experienced walls tattoo stunt and their long term love songs and sometimes the coded clothes. i don't buy into the blue greening. it's a reach. but lately I have been a louie larry (because I have more empathy for him, because his stunts are brutal and his career has been thoroughly sabotaged and discouraged. i stepped about of harrie train during holivia shit show and ever since then i have a bit taste in my mouth. my thoughts on harry can bit a bit extreme but I promise you it's all because I am just hurt and not a rad or something. my opinion is that, even when his stunts are bad and his image of a womaniser is not true, he at least get attention and career boost out of most of his stunts, except for olivia because it did do some damage but I'm sure if they intended to follow the original blue print, he must have gotten out less harmed. my point being, his closeting altho harsh, gets him somewhere while louis' gets him nowhere). at this point my main concern is just babygate and some boost to louis' career because when i look at him i feel so faint and hurt because he's been chained like that for so many years now. bbg is so disgusting i cannot even bring myself to speak my opinions on it. it just shows me a world that's so cruel and hateful. i still cannot believe how someone could agree to fake being pregnant and labelling a child to be someone else's and if brett is his father, i have respect for him running in minus because well, how could someone agree to put their own child through a mess like that? i haven't been in this fandom for a very long time as opposed to all you veterans but I'm already so tired of this. i saw changes in their pattern that began in august 2021 and that gave me a bit of hope that maybe they are going somewhere with bbg. i saw many takes that they are building a narrative and it will take some time to establish his good father image and i agree with it. if they wanted to go that route, it would be easier for him to end it. but it's been almost 3 years since then as well. and it's not going anywhere? how much are they building up? i think radio silence of louis' on this matter from 2017-2021 was actually far better than this. now i know some ppl say bbg is the only way he looks straight rn and we don't have any stunt girlfriend but in all honesty I would trade bbg+louis' career boost for 3 more olivia wilde if i had to. what I'm trying to say that I'm so fed up with their situation. i hope better days are ahead but i am running low on energy. it hurts to be called deluded and be the scrap goat of this fandom. louis' number are falling down day by day, he's stagnant, i don't see hope. i had better expectations with lt2 but it didn't turn out like that. is nobody paying attention to his career??? is nobody investing in him?? he has potential and i know if they could invest even 40% of what they do for harry in louis, he could do so much better than the rest of the boys. i know how he's got THAT end of the deal??? i wish they could end babygate because i really want to be free from this misery. i know i can always distance myself but my conscience is too cluttered with this to the point that I don't even enjoy their arts. i just want them to be free so i don't have this information lingering in my mind all the damn time. i had successfully distanced myself twice from them but then elounor breakup happened and i came back wanting for more. now hs4 will come and the whole 'its for my ex girlfriend' shit will happen again. i am young and sensitive and it hurts me that the world could be so cruel and i as a fan have to endure this pain on their behalf too. i know you're optimistic but im losing hope. everyday. i don't see any progress and sometimes i do think they have given up as well. who knows what's happening behind the scene? at this point I don't care if they are together or not. i just want fairness in this situation. they BOTH are in this relationship so why did louis get the bad end of the agreement? why didn't his career take off? (okay i agree he may not have the same range but im sure as hell sure that he can do a lot better than both liam and niall and even zayn if given a chance to be authentic). it makes me bitter in general. being their fan has made me a hater of the world in general and it's principles and unfairness. i just hope even if it's 0.00001% in me right now, that one day it will end. i know they don't have much time now to spark (louis 32 years old now, he must get the experience the joy of doing genuine numbers once because god i know he deserves the charting even if he says he doesn't want). am i thinking too much? i probably am but I cannot help myself. do you have hopes that it will end anytime soon? in another year? or it will take another ten? i honestly I'm losing so much respect for everyone in this situation, for human kind, for their sisters, for all the ladies who agree to do this shit. they don't deserve this. Hi, anon!

I know times are hard, but i can't know when they'll end bg, if things will change for Louis ever or when the industry will change. The only thing we can do is hope for better times. H and L, and us in fandon have lived with this current situation for years now. Little has changed for the better. Every good thing we get always has a backside and if things seem too good to be true, it always is. Therefore it's important to enjoy the good times when they happen and ignore the shit or meme the hell out of it. That's how you survive here longterm.

I know it's all very frustrating. There is very little we as fans can do to change the situation. We can only support them and acknowledge that they are in a difficult situation, and not hate them too much for what they do, but not praise them for everything either. I think things can change very rapidly, but we don’t know when change will come. I don't expect anything to change in the next two years at least. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Same day in Dana Point, California, Mark Richard Hilbun, a former postal employee, killed his mother and her dog and then shot two postal workers. On March 21, 1995, in Montclair, New Jersey, Christopher Green, a former postal employee, killed four people, including two employees. On December 19, 1996, in Las Vegas, Charles Jennings shot and killed postal worker, James Brown. On January 30, 2006, in Goleta, California, Jennifer San Marco killed six postal employees and then committed suicide.

Hi Gina - I’m the actual property anon and I don’t know who sent in that previous ask, but certainly it wasn’t me!

I did speak with my aunt about it yesterday but she just re-told me what I have already shared with you, adding though that she clearly remembers the house as overall “very lovely” and “perfect for kids to grow in”, with all the spaces and such. Larry Never Broke Up - 2016 & 2017

I've had a lot of people ask me to elaborate on my stance as a 'no breakup' Larrie, so this is that effort.

To start with, I’m a no-stunt, adult Larrie. I arrived in the fandom in early fall 2020, and have watched countless interviews, concert footage, Larry proof videos, FIMQ crack videos, read archival Tumblr blogs and timelines, watched Cosmic Leeds timelines (go do that right now if you haven’t, I’ll wait), read primary source tweets. And of course, listened to song lyrics.

I say all that to show you that I’m coming at this with a lot of visual and auditory information.

There are many Larries who, though they believe Larry is together today, think that at some point the boys broke up. I’m not trying to convince anyone otherwise—believe what makes sense to you. I’m just putting out my own opinion. You are free to make yours.

TW: I will be mentioning stunts here, and also parental death, so beware if those are triggers for you.

I can’t stress enough that a long-term, monogamous relationship takes effort. I’m not saying they’ve never fought or had miscommunications. It had to have been hard. Not only as they grew up together, but fighting against industry abuse and homophobia, societal homophobia, contractual closets, and just real-life struggles of couple hood.

What I’m suggesting is that they worked through those things and never broke up.

I also want to stress that they are still closeted today, and they lie. Louis, in particular, is not above lying to protect the people he loves—we’ve seen it in interviews where he’s forced to deny Larry. I don’t think either of them WANT to lie, but they will if they have to in order to protect the closet (either by choice or by contract).

Lastly, I want to point out that we don’t know anything definitively. I could be 100% wrong here. All we have is some pretty strong circumstantial evidence. What I’m including here is also only a fraction of what’s out there. I won’t be going through all of twitter, clothing cues at the time, but rest assured they are out there.

This is going to get long...more under the cut.

Most people who think Larry broke up at some point believe it was after 2015, between 2016 & 2017, so I’ll focus on that time. After all, before that you could see them together and affirm their affection by their body language. I get it, I totally do. Without being able to put eyes on them and see them interact, it’s really hard. Here’s the thing, though. If you piece things together, there’s not a timeline that makes sense for them to have been broken up. Ever. They did as much coding and messaging then as they are doing now in 2022. You just have to search to find it.

Before I really dive in, I have to give a nod to the tattoos. You simply do not get tattoos that matchy matchy all over your body, if you’re not in this for the absolute long haul. For more on tattoos, see this great video by Cosmic Leeds on YouTube.

Without further ado—here are the reasons I don’t think Larry broke up in 2016.

1.       BBG. (If you don’t know about BabyGate, let me know and I’ll provide resources—basically, a stunt was pushed on Louis to make the public believe he’d fathered a child with a one-night stand). The baby was born in January 2016. Just after the band went on hiatus officially. You can no longer see H&L sitting on a couch thigh to knee pushing against each other. You have to imagine. Two days after the baby was born (on 1/23/16), Harry tweeted “Flowers all round”—lyrics from a country song called Watching His Son Go Down, written by Danny Shirley and sung by Jeff Bates.

It's a VERY sad song about a man losing his son to addiction. Weird way to congratulate your friend, if he really was having a kid. Keep in mind through ALL of 2016, Louis was bearding with Danielle Campbell, and he was papped a lot pushing a baby carriage to underscore the baby narrative.

On July 29, 2015, Harry had posted on Instagram a black and white picture of Jack Nicholson, who found out in his 30s that the woman he thought was his sister his while life was actually his mother.

2.       Kiwi – there is photographic evidence of Harry (with long hair) writing Kiwi and other songs for HS1 in the spring of 2016. Kiwi of “I’m having your baby” fame is definitely about BBG. Harry at his most pissed off and angry song writing phase, singing about BBG, and wearing the peace ring (iconic engagement ring). I would assert that he’s not wearing his engagement ring and singing “having your baby” if they broke up in the early months of 2016.

3.       Dunkirk. According to IMDB, the filming dates for Dunkirk were 23 May 2016 - 2 September 2016. So that puts Harry cutting his hair before 5/23/16. Which means a long hair Harry wrote Kiwi before then. This video of Harry having his hair cut was before 5/23/16

4.       Jamaica—Harry recorded HS1 in Jamaica in 2016. I can’t find exact dates, but between Dunkirk and HS1, he was a busy person that summer.  And they must have received the terminal diagnosis of his mother-in-law at some point. According to people who were keeping track of those things back then, there were DAYS when H&L were MIA at the same time. I agree with @sslarrysettingsail that it’s likely they were in Jamaica. 5. In August 2016, the rainbow bears made an appearance at a Little Mix concert. Again, not proof, but strong circumstantial evidence. The bears had been a constant presence at 1D shows with little known nods to LGBT history.

6.       As young adults, L&H both lost a parent. Louis lost his mother in December 2016, and Harry lost his step-dad in July 2017. (see my post here on grief and long-term relationships). It’s not mentioned a lot due to people not wanting to be disrespectful, but loss of a parent takes a toll on a person, and a couple. They lost two people inside of six months. There are pictures of H bringing a shaving kit to the hospital.

10.     Song lyrics—a lot of people use song lyrics as proofs of break ups. I mean, song lyrics CAN be autobiographical. Of course they can. But all I can say is that you have to look at context. Almost all their songs have co-writers which by default adds a second or third perspective. Songs are not inherently proofs—a writer can use different words to convey an emotion they want to express, in other words two weeks become two years. I strongly believe break up songs allude to having to be separated by their closet or contracts. They have to be apart for work. This makes them sad. The sad is expressed in a song as being apart…and that can sound like a break up to people. Sometimes a breakup song matches perfectly with a stunt. As a closeted queer man who has public relationships with women, some of the songs are going to feel like het break ups. I cannot use song lyrics as proof of a break up when I have so much else pointing to them staying together.

11. I would also submit as far as song lyrics go, along with the so-called break up songs, we have the most adoring love songs. For example, Sweet Creature on the same album as Two Ghosts, and Adore You and Golden on the same album as Falling. 

12.  Xander Ritz – some people point to Xander as a reason why the boys might have broken up. ::cries:: NO! Xander was a friend of Harry’s he met through Jeff Azoff. Stepping into 2017

1. we have these two pictures still live on Louis Instagram. On January 1, 2017, he posted a selfie in the boyfriend jacket (famed shared Larry jacket), and January 18 he posted a picture of a possible “going to the club” fit, and you can see H’s reflection in the glass behind him.

2. Pixie Geldof’s Wedding—June 17, 2017. (Literally days before Robin died). The Daily Mail reported H&L together at the wedding, though there are no pictures of them together.

3. Dunkirk came out July 21, 2017, just a few weeks after Robin Twist (Harry’s step-dad died). Through all of Dunkirk promo, H wore the peace ring. The promo interviews for Dunkirk hit a bit harder knowing what was happening behind the scenes. The peace ring is a big deal to me--H started wearing it in 2013, and it's strongly connected to Louis.

4. Adding on 2/20/25 - Both Harry and Louis performed at the iHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas in September 2017 - Louis was asked on stage to perform BTY w/ Bebe even though he wasn't on the roster because "he was in the building." There are suspicions that Harry even dressed up as a Panda to dance during L's sound check for this set, but that can't be confirmed. 5. Jump forward a bit to this interview when Harry talks about Fine Line being about having sex and feeling sad, I would submit that he was writing those songs just after the loss of people close to him (including in March 2019, Felicite Tomlinson, Louis’ sister). And that the sadness isn’t about a breakup, but about grief of losing people.   

In conclusion, yes there are songs that can be analyzed as breakup songs. To me, though, in context of everything else going on in their lives, there is no time in 2016 or 2017 that fits a breakup narrative.

Harry Styles pertenece a la comunidad LGBTQ+

Este post es una recopilación de la gran mayoría de los hechos de Harry que hacen referencia a su pertenencia en la comunidad. Antes de mostrar cada hecho, demos una pequeña conceptualización sobre el queer coding.(no todo lo que se muestra es qc) 

- ¿Qué es el Queer Coding?

Nos referimos al conjunto de características, comportamientos y elementos, determinados sobre la base de una serie de conductas asociadas a elementos estereotipados o clichés dentro del movimiento LGBTQ.

El queercoding es hacer uso de simbologías, accesoria o prendas conectadas a la comunidad LBGT para comunicarse con los propios miembros de la comunidad y hacerles saber que ellos también son parte de ella.

1. Ropa

Harry usó la camiseta de los Rams de Michael Sam durante el bis de su show en San Louis. Michael Sam es el primer jugador de fútbol abiertamente gay. Michael y Harry también se convirtieron en mutuales en Twitter.

“Más comúnmente en los años 80, usar un arete en la oreja izquierda era una declaración que mostraba que uno estaba orientado hacia el sexo opuesto. Quizás menos conocido era el simbolismo de tener un pendiente en la oreja derecha, lo que significaba que quizás te atrajera el mismo sexo. El lema era: "la izquierda es correcta, la derecha es incorrecta". Esto continuó bastante en los 90, pero por lo que puedo decir, se ha extinguido, en su mayor parte. Sin embargo, a algunas personas (como yo) les gusta mantenerlo vivo usándolo tanto para la moda como para el simbolismo ". (.XX.)

Sí, no es exactamente el mismo pendiente, pero es similar y es la misma oreja.

En Vogue 2020, Harry uso este pantalón, con muchas referencias, una de ellas es a “Hockney”. El interés de Harry en Hockney se ha discutido anteriormente. Fue a una exposición en febrero de 2019.

Hockney es gay y ha explorado la naturaleza del amor gay en el retrato. A veces, como en We Two Boys Together Clinging (1961), que lleva el nombre de un poema de Walt Whitman, las obras se refieren a su amor por los hombres. En 1963, jadeaba a dos hombres juntos en el cuadro Escena doméstica, Lon Ángeles, uno duchándose mientras el otro se lavaba la espalda. En el verano de 1966, mientras enseñaba en la UCLA, conoció a Peter Schlesinger, un asombroso arte que posaba para pinturas y dibujos, y con quien se involucró de manera femenina.

La foto de Harry en Instagram del Ajax en neón no es para el club de fútbol de Ámsterdam, en realidad es una de las primeras palabras en el lenguaje polari y significa cerca.

Harry no solo en 2016 subió la foto de la bandera, y del arcoíris, sino también el 26 de junio de 2015 había publicado por primera vez la bandera lgbtq+. Y la de foto de las fans con todas banderas, fue en 26 de octubre de 2017.

Harry publicó esta foto en Instagram el 25 de marzo, detrás del escenario antes de su concierto de Oberhausen. Él está sosteniendo dos aguacates sobre sus ojos, mirando hacia la luz, sin ver....

✽ La definición real de la palabra aguacate - una fruta, verde claro en color (ese color suena una campana) ✽ El origen de la palabra aguacate - testículo, con una pequeña foto de un árbol de testículo (árbol de tuerca de testículo, ¿alguien?) ✽ La definición del Diccionario Urbano de la palabra aguacate - alguien que pasa desapercibido en el espectro gaydar. El 19 de agosto del 2014 Harry twittea esto sin ningún tipo de contexto.

Asustado de la oscuridad y el dentista. 

Fans buscaron lo que quería decir Harry con esto y encontraron que esta frase es parte de una canción titulada Secrets de Mary Lambert. 

La canción dice:

 “i cant think straight, i'm so gay” - no puedo pensar con claridad, soy tan gay.

El 11 de octubre de 2014 twittea una parte de esta canción:

El sol tiene su sombrero en hip-hip-hip hurra El sol se ha puesto el sombrero Y el esta saliendo hoy Ahora todos seremos felices Hip-hip-hip hurra El sol se ha puesto el sombrero Y el esta saliendo hoy (coming out - salir del closet)

Y esto ocurrio muchísimas veces más. Harry twitteaba lyrics de canciones sobre insinuaciones de su sexualidad. Un post: .X.

5. Canciones:

Sabemos que Harry ha escrito muchísimas canciones a lo largo de los años, sobre diferentes temas. Muchas de ellas, hablan de sexo homosexual, son canciones claras y precisas que han sido escritas como una forma de comunicarse:

Empecemos con Watermelon Sugar. Fue retratada por el público como una canción basada en tener relaciones sexuales con mujeres, sin embargo, muchas de las palabras de esta canción hacen referencia a como Harry le gusta tener relaciones sexuales con personas de su mismo sexo. Vamos a analizar las partes importantes de la letra.

La parte más sexy del cuerpo masculino, especialmente si es de la variedad de cuerpo de papá.

"Vi el bulto de Sebastian y me puse muy caliente y molesto." "Me encanta frotar el bulto de mi hombre después de cocinarle una gran comida." "le encanta cuando duermo sobre él abrazando su bulto." "su parte femenina favorita en una mujer son las tetas, mientras que la mía es el bulto de un hombre." "soy una mujer a la que no le interesa el culo de un hombre. Estoy más interesada en su bulto." "a él le gusta jugar con los senos, jugar con mis senos, y a mí me encanta jugar con el bulto, jugar, masajear, aplastar, en general amar su bulto."

Término utilizado de líquido preseminal masculino al practicar sexo oral. 

Él solo anhela ese azúcar de sandía.

El equivalente a "chúpame el pene". Dirigido a las mujeres, puede significar literalmente chupar pene, mientras que cuando se dirige a los hombres suele ser un insulto. No hay que confundirlo con "Respirar sobre ellos", que significa matar a alguien.

"Oye, ¿puedes prestarme 30 dólares?" "Puedes respirar sobre mí es lo que puedes hacer culo roto”

Técnica de comparación de penes binarios. Dos hombres erectos se colocan uno enfrente del otro. Se acercan lentamente el uno al otro y gana el primero cuya punta toque el vientre del otro. 

Todo el mundo miente sobre el tamaño del pene, la única forma de saberlo con certeza es si nos ponemos panza con panza el uno con el otro.

Una baya rojiza que se encuentra en la naturaleza.

Un tipo de baya que se relaciona estrechamente con la actividad sexual.

Un fruto del amor

La fresa se encontró creciendo en el prado

MEDICINE   XX

En resumen, Harry escribió medicine, una canción que habla sobre sexo homosexual. Hubo mucha controversia con respecto a la letra, y varias personas dudando(tratando de negar) si realmente la canción hablaba sobre el sexo con un hombre. La letra claramente dice “with him” “con el”

(en español no se nota el cambio pero la letra original es “just like she already owned it”, cambia el she por he, ella por él.

Harry enumeró sus pasatiempos como "bandminton".

En la entrevista de The Dome Germany hubo otra referencia importante de "bandminton".

Zayn: "¿No eras, como, campeón de ajedrez en tu escuela?

Harry: No. bádminton. *Miran a Louis* 

Entrevistadora: Así que usted era un jugador campeón de bádminton, entonces?

Harry: [risas] Aparentemente sí.

Louis: O eso o, eh, un jinete, creo que lo habrías sido.

Harry: Sí.

Palabra clave para sexo anal

Así que tal vez Harry quiso decir que sus pasatiempos incluyen el sexo anal y luego se llamó a sí mismo un campeón del sexo anal en una entrevista.

En AMAs de 2015 le preguntaron a los chicos si tenían algún crush en mujeres, Harry respondio: 

Harry: No. Nunca. Nunca más.

En esta entrevista estaban hablando de como viviendo juntos (Harry y Louis) hacen varias fiestas, y queda muchas cosas por limpiar, la comida, y todas esas cosas;

Hi! The harry/larry link with these tattoos you can find in the 1973 movie Papillon, which is all explained in these links (really I LOVE this lil rabbit hole, please do get lost in it). In short: in this story Henri and Louis try to escape prison. And in the 1973 movie Henri has these tats, which look familiar:

And you know, Louis' tats are a lil different, instead of a sythe there's a big ol red dot for one which brings me to the book cover (to my understanding it's the first edition (in french) to the left and the international book cover to the right):

Yeap very unfortunate all that. And all the other lil unfortunate coincidences to come, such as (again all in that link above) Harry naming pictures of Steve McQueen on the set of Papillon with the butterfly out and all that as his favorite photographs of all time, or coded-clothing-fashion-king Louis doing a photoshoot in the same shirt as Rami Malek, who plays Louis in the 2017 remake, wore to the Papillon premiere, not to mention that the tattoo artist has simply said Harry's butterfly tat is inspired by Papillon, or there not being any Papillon parallels in either of them MVs whatsoever nah nope.

Going on a lil ramble about tattoo meanings so here's a cut:

But about their tattoos and these themes in general... A lot of their tattoos seem prison tattoo inspired, which in itself already circles back to Papillon, but yeah then I think it's worth kinda taking a sneakpeak into the meaning of prison imagery, with skulls meaning mortality (generally it's just death but lemme be a bit less dark lol) Not saying that's then what it means to him, I mean the link with papillon alone is pretty convincing to me, and really what in the everlastingfuckery skulls mean to Louis I couldn't tell you other than it's definitely something. Here's a lil collection, but that's from 2016 and he hasn't stopped. Like he really really loves skull imagery. Maybe it's just that, he loves skull imagery, and that's that, but we're talking about Louis here so HMM. Also I'm really honestly just lost with that whole skull thing, I know this can prompt and ask so just saying I got nothing sorry)

But for the cards, talked about it here and here but I'll just copy the relevant bit: Playing cards = gambling. And I think gambling themed tats, also including the 17 black tat and dice and all that, plus that tattoo of harry that looks like a playing card with a skull really we keep going in circles can be symbolism for not just liking to play games, to gamble, but taking life as a gamble, "beating the odds", "taking chances", "high risk high reward", and even given a chance (they can be somebody), you know? Basically all circling back to wanting to make it big, to be one of the few that reaches the top, that the steps taken to achieve that feel like gambling, just hoping the odds are in their favor. I mean what were the chances really that they made it as big as they did?

I really view a lot of shit they do, as loads of musicians do, as some result of their struggles with fame / being (stuck) in the industry / their public images etc yet still wanting to make music and continue despite all of the bullshit (or having no choice in the matter with contracts and all). So while I view that Papillon link as not exactly concidental I do think their interest in these kinda tats goes beyond just going "larry amirite".
